We'll highlight our top jugglers later this week! Check back next week for the next challenge and be sure to work on our training drills in between. Good luck!

Make sure to ALWAYS use or draw a home plate. Keep the bat at the top of the strike zone. Let the ball come to you. Do not “go out and get it.” You want to absorb the impact of the ball so that it doesn’t go too far out by the fielders. At the Varsity level, we bunt A LOT and win many games because of it! Follow this video to develop your blocking skills for the catcher position. This is a great drill for all age levels. A catcher has several responsibilities on the softball field. One of the most important is being able to block a wild pitch to prevent runners from advancing. To properly block a ball in the dirt, start in an athletic stance. When the ball comes to you, you will first need to drop to your knees. Then, create an angle with your back and cradle over top of the ball. Next, keep your chin down and place your glove between your legs. This can help keep the ball in front of you. You can and should do each of the drills she demonstrates A LOT! You don’t have to throw a ball each time. You really want to work on the motion. I would recommend doing these drills every time you practice pitching. Do 10-15 of each EVERY time! |
